Venus Wisdom for Beauty, Belonging & the Body as Temple

Who Is Venus?
Roman goddess of love, beauty, and divine embodiment.
In Roman mythology, Venus is the goddess of love, beauty, sensuality, and fertility. She is often remembered as emerging from the sea, born of ocean foam and carried to shore on a clamshell—a divine vision of allure and grace. Her arrival was said to awaken desire, inspire art, and soften even the hardest of hearts.
Unlike many Roman deities who were adapted from Greek traditions, Venus holds her own distinct presence within Roman culture. She was not only the goddess of personal love, but also a protector, a guide, and the divine mother of the Roman people, through her son Aeneas—linking her to lineage, loyalty, and legacy.
Venus was honoured in temples, in gardens, in art, and in private rituals. She presided over romance, yes—but also over harmony, pleasure, beauty, and the kind of soft power that shapes culture and soul alike.
She is often shown in art as serene and luminous, not wild or chaotic, but intentional in her sensuality. Her presence calls us back to the sacredness of the body, the poetry of touch, the nourishment of beauty, and the joy of life’s quiet luxuries.
This is what makes her a beautiful guide for Taurus Season—especially in autumn.
As the air cools and the Earth calls us inward, Venus reminds us that devotion is not always loud. Sometimes it is the quiet act of making your bed with intention, the way your fingers trace the rim of your teacup, or the softness you choose to bring into your space.
She teaches us that nurturing ourselves is a sacred practice—not a luxury reserved for rare moments, but a rhythm that can anchor every day.
In the Taurus way, self-care is not about pampering. It’s about grounding.
It’s about returning to the body like it’s a home—one that deserves comfort, beauty, and respect.
Venus encourages us to ask:
Do I live in alignment with what matters to me?
Do my habits reflect my self-worth or undermine it?
Am I creating a life that feels like mine—or one that just looks good from the outside?
(Perhaps you may like to journal answers to these questions and refelect)
She invites us to create rituals of sensual presence, such as:
Running a warm bath with rose petals or herbs from your garden—not to escape, but to reconnect.
Wiping down surfaces slowly, with a cloth that smells of essential oils you love.
Choosing clothing that feels like an embrace—soft, comfortable, tactile.
Preparing simple meals with attention and gratitude, served in your favourite bowl or on your grandmother’s plate.
Lighting a candle before you begin your evening, not to chase darkness away, but to honour it.
Under Venus’s guidance, our homes become altars—not through perfection, but through presence. A folded blanket, a clean cup, a chosen scent—these are acts of everyday reverence.
She shows us how to care for the Earth by caring for our own corner of it. She asks us to tend to our relationships, not just with others, but with ourselves—with gentleness, honesty, and respect.
This autumn, Venus walks beside us not as a goddess of seduction, but as a goddess of sacred simplicity.
She whispers: You are allowed to enjoy your life. You are allowed to slow down. You are allowed to choose beauty, comfort, and quiet joy as your medicine.

Venus, the Planet
The cosmic mirror of love, value, and embodiment.
Beyond mythology, Venus is also a planet—a radiant presence in our sky, visible just before sunrise or after sunset. Often called the “morning star” or “evening star,” she’s not only the brightest object in the night sky after the Moon, but also the planetary ruler of Taurus.
In astrology, Venus governs:
Love and relationships
Sensuality and intimacy
Aesthetics and beauty
Self-worth and value
Money, resources, and what we attract
She is the planet that teaches us to value ourselves and our lives deeply—not just in theory, but in practice. In Taurus, her energy becomes earthy and tangible, guiding us to seek comfort, pleasure, and simplicity in our physical and emotional world.
As Carolyne Faulkner beautifully shares, Venus helps us understand that what we value defines how we live. She doesn’t just shape our romantic life—she shapes our choices, our rhythms, our priorities. Her wisdom asks us to notice:
Do I live in alignment with what matters to me?
Do my habits reflect my self-worth or undermine it?
Am I creating a life that feels like mine—or one that just looks good from the outside?
During Taurus Season, it is Venus the planet—our astrological guide—who becomes our cosmic compass.
She orbits close to Earth, moving in a slow, radiant rhythm that mirrors Taurus’s grounded, sensual pace.
When we tune into her placement and influence, we begin to align with a deeper way of living—one that is rooted in value, comfort, embodiment, and care.
Venus as a planet doesn’t shout for attention—she invites us to pay attention.
She reminds us that the way we move through the world—what we choose, how we spend our time, how we treat ourselves—is a reflection of what we believe we are worth.
When we work with Venus astrologically, we begin to see how everything becomes sacred when filtered through the lens of self-worth.
Our skincare rituals are no longer about vanity or maintenance —they become a way of saying, “I deserve to be cared for.”
Our relationship with money becomes less about accumulation and more about receiving support, creating stability, and making empowered choices that reflect what we truly value.
The tea we drink in the morning becomes a quiet moment of presence and nourishment, rather than something rushed or unconscious.
Even the way we dress, speak, or decorate our spaces can shift under Venus’s guidance—not to impress others, but to create an environment where we feel safe, supported, and beautiful in our own skin.
This is not about indulgence.
It is about reclamation.
Reclaiming the parts of ourselves that have been taught to settle, rush, or neglect. Reclaiming time for rest, space for slowness, and rituals that honour both body and soul.
Under the light of Venus, we learn that every choice we make—from the soft scarf we wrap around our shoulders to the boundaries we hold with love—is an act of devotion to who we are becoming.
Personal Reflection: A Life Guided by Venus
The energy of Venus has always been with me.
Even before I understood who she was—before I learned her name in mythology or recognised her place in astrology—I could feel her presence. She was there in my childhood, guiding my tiny hands as I carefully arranged pillows and soft toys on my bed. Not just for tidiness, but for comfort. For beauty. For a sense of sacredness. Even then, I wanted things to feel good, not just look good. That was Venus.
I remember being enchanted by the quiet elegance of old films, or by the simple act of turning down a hotel bed. As a child and teenager, I would do the same in my own room—prepare my bed before a bath, smoothing out the sheets and folding back the covers so that when I returned, it felt welcoming. Safe. Special. It was my ritual—my way of saying, “This moment matters.” That was Venus, too.
She shows up in my kitchen, in the way I prepare food—intentionally, lovingly, with a little garnish or thoughtful placement. Ingredients are chosen with care. Presentation matters. The energy of a meal is just as important as the flavour. She’s there in the way I serve tea, lay the table, or light a candle before dinner.
For as long as I can remember, creating sacred spaces has been second nature. It used to be my job—thousands of hours spent handcrafting beautiful decorations for weddings, or designing bespoke hats as a milliner. And I always added a secret softness—lining the inside of a hat with silk, embroidery, or brocade. Something only the wearer would feel. A secret love letter tucked inside a piece of art. That was always Venus.
I see her in the legacy my mother left behind.
Mum always had the most beautiful nighties and sleepwear—soft, elegant, and filled with love. Every Easter, she would gift my sister and me a new pair. When she passed away, my sister and I felt that absence deeply—not just of the gifts, but of that tradition of care. We made a promise to each other to continue it. Every year, we still buy ourselves beautiful sleepwear in her memory, as an act of love and a soft rebellion against saving things “for special.”
Mum had an entire cupboard filled with exquisite soap—gifts, luxuries, and little indulgences that she never quite let herself use. After she died, we stood before that cupboard and made another decision: we would use the soap. All of it. And from that moment on, we vowed never to save beautiful things for later. We would use them now. Every day would be made special, not waited for.
We buried our mother in a gorgeous white cotton nightie she had never worn, a cashmere blanket folded over her legs, and one of her cherished bars of soap beside her. It felt like giving her what she had always longed for—comfort, beauty, and rest.
Since then, my sister and I have surrounded ourselves with softness—bedding, essential oils, body products, beautiful fabrics. The best we could afford. It’s more than a preference. It’s a way of honouring ourselves. Of carrying forward something sacred. Of embodying the lesson that comfort is not selfish—it’s soulful.
That same Venusian energy is what I now bring into the Awen Room. It’s in the way I create healing spaces, the way I decorate my home, the way I gather natural treasures on my walks—feathers, stones, pinecones, shells, and flowers. I bring them home and make space for them, and in doing so, they somehow make space for me.
This is how Venus lives in me.
Not as a goddess far away—but as a rhythm. A presence.
She is the heartbeat behind how I love, how I care, how I serve, and how I come home to myself.
Always here. Always guiding.

Closing Ritual: A Venus Offering
This closing ritual invites you to ground all you’ve reflected on and offer it up in beauty and simplicity. It’s not about ceremony—it’s about presence.
You will need:
A small bowl of water (with rose petals, salt, or herbs if you like)
A candle (soft pink, white, or whatever feels soothing)
A written note of devotion or gratitude to Venus—planet or goddess, or both
To begin:
Settle into a quiet space. Light your candle. Place the bowl of water in front of you. Take three slow, intentional breaths. Feel yourself arriving fully.
When you’re ready, read your note aloud. Let it be soft and unpolished. A thank you. A wish. A whisper of recognition.
Hold the note in your hands, then tear or fold it gently and place it under the bowl or beside the flame—whatever feels right. Let it become part of your altar, even just for the night.
Dip your fingers into the water. Touch your forehead, your heart, your belly.
Say softly:
“I honour beauty. I honour presence. I honour myself.”
Let the candle burn for as long as you need.
Close with one more breath, and a quiet return.
