The Golden Thread: Claiming Joy Without Permission

Date: Friday 15 August

There is a kind of joy that’s tidy and acceptable — the kind that makes sense to the people around us. And then there is the wild joy, the one that bubbles up when you do something just because it lights you up inside. Leo season reminds us that joy doesn’t need permission, productivity, or explanation. It’s reason enough to follow the golden thread of what feels good.
Too often we wait: for someone to join us, for it to be the right time, for an audience, or for an external sign that it’s “worth it.” But the truth is, joy is worthy simply because it exists. And your desire to feel it is holy.
So let this week — and this season — be a gentle rebellion. Say yes to what makes you feel alive, colourful, a little more you. Even if it’s small. Even if no one else gets it. Especially then.
Transformative Reflections
🍂 Letting Go
Where have I been waiting for permission to enjoy something I love?
🌀 Gratitude
What joyful, life-brightening things am I grateful for that I once considered “frivolous”?
🌿 Abundance
Where in my life can I choose joy without needing it to be productive or approved?
Weekend Practice:
The Joy Spark Ritual
This weekend, choose one small act of joy — something you’ve been putting off or telling yourself you’ll get to later. It could be anything that feels like a spark: painting for fun, dancing in your kitchen, buying yourself flowers, rereading a favourite book, cooking something indulgent, singing loudly while you clean, watching the sunrise.
Before you begin, light a candle — ideally golden, orange, or something you associate with joy. Let it mark this moment as special. You are not doing this because you’ve earned it. You’re doing it because you’re alive, and that’s enough.
As you move through your chosen joy practice, notice if inner resistance shows up — thoughts like “this is silly,” or “I should be doing something more important.” When it does, gently bring your awareness back to the candle flame, to the warmth in your body, to the smile that may be forming.
Let this act of joy be simple, sacred, and completely yours. You don’t have to share it. You don’t have to justify it. You only have to receive it.
📝 Optional reflection to share in our circle on Sunday evening or Monday morning:
What did you choose for your joy ritual?
How did it feel to do it without needing it to be “useful”?
What changed when you claimed it fully?
How did this week's work in the circle impact you?
