Leo Season Dates: July 23 to August 22

ree

As the wheel turns and we find ourselves deep in winter here in Australia, Leo Season arrives like a gentle invitation to lift our eyes from the hearth and remember that we are allowed to glow — even now, maybe especially now.

In the colder, darker months, it’s natural for us to gather close, to retreat inward, to tend the softer parts of ourselves — Cancer Season holds us in that cocoon beautifully. But something I’ve noticed, living here for so long, is how we crave a spark of light in winter. So many of us come from families that trace their roots back to the other side of the world, where these traditions were born in a different season altogether. Astrology, too, was dreamed up under northern skies — it’s so deeply woven with their seasonal cycles.

Yet here, we find our own ways to bring that energy alive. Look at how Christmas in July has become a thing — households throwing little feasts, decorating, gathering, singing, laughing. It’s like a collective remembering that midwinter needs moments of celebration, moments that make us feel childlike wonder again. Isn’t it incredible how we naturally weave that in, even without consciously thinking about astrology?

Leo Season, for me, feels a bit like that. A gentle return to our own spark. Not a big performance, not standing under a spotlight we don’t want — but a small, golden light within that says, “I’m here. I want to feel alive again.”

After Cancer’s deep nourishment — those weeks where we may have retreated to wrap ourselves in comfort and care — Leo invites us to peek our heads back out. To see what we might like to share. To remember the warmth that lives in us, no matter the weather.

This doesn’t mean you have to roar like a Lion if you’re more of a quiet soul. Courage, generosity, warmth — they don’t always look loud. Sometimes they look like sharing a truth you’ve been holding close. Sometimes they look like allowing someone to see a part of you you’ve kept hidden. Sometimes they look like small, playful acts that remind you what it’s like to feel lighthearted again.

It’s a bit like that feeling when the first hint of spring warmth arrives and you find yourself, quite suddenly, getting your legs out after months of hiding them away — pale and new to the sun again. Maybe they’re not polished or tanned or “ready” in the eyes of the world, but they’re yours, and they deserve to feel the light. You deserve to feel the light.

So this Leo Season, ask yourself gently: Where might I share a little more of myself? Where might I pour out some warmth I’ve been storing up? Where might I find the courage to step forward, even just an inch, from my winter cocoon?

When you honour your own worth — when you fill your cup with kindness for yourself — generosity and warmth begin to flow outward naturally. That’s Leo’s gift: a heart that doesn’t just glow for itself, but brings warmth to the people and spaces around you.

This season isn’t about proving yourself or forcing big declarations. It’s about remembering that playfulness, joy, and courage can look like small, beautiful acts of self-honouring. It’s about tending the light you already carry — then sharing it, as you’re ready, with the world that needs your warmth.

🔥 Element of Leo — Fire

Leo’s element is Fire, but not all Fire feels the same. If you remember Aries Season, you might recall that Aries Fire is the first spark — the match struck in the dark, the bold ignition that gets us moving. Leo’s Fire, by contrast, is the steady, golden flame that keeps the hearth warm once the spark has caught.

Leo Fire is heart-centred and generous. It’s not here to burn things down or race ahead — it’s here to sustain joy, to offer warmth, to remind us that our light can nourish not just ourselves but those around us too.

In the middle of winter, this steady Fire asks you: How can I keep my inner glow alive? Where might I share my warmth with others? Unlike Aries’ quick flame, Leo Fire is enduring — it reminds you that your light is something to be shared, bringing warmth and a gentle glow to the lives you touch.

🌞 Planetary Ruler — The Sun

Leo is ruled by the Sun, the life-giver that sits at the very centre of our solar system. In astrology, the Sun represents our essence — the core of who we are when everything else is stripped away. It’s our life force, our vitality, our light.

Where Cancer’s ruler, the Moon, holds us in softness and gentle ebb and flow, the Sun shines steadily, reminding us that our worth doesn’t wax and wane — it simply is. The Sun warms, illuminates, and gives us energy to grow.

In the heart of winter, Leo Season and its solar energy can feel like a gentle call to remember your own steady light. Just as the Sun returns each day without asking permission, so too does your true self deserve to be seen — not forced, not performed, just naturally radiant in your own way.

This solar energy also has a way of amplifying the Leo aspects within you, shining a light on where you might want to feel more confident, courageous, or playful. You may like to look at where Leo and the Sun sit in your own birth chart — they can offer beautiful clues about how this energy is moving through you right now, and how you might work with it in your own gentle way.

🦁 Leo in the Body

In the body, Leo rules the heart, the spine, and the upper back. These areas connect us to our natural courage, confidence, and self-love — and they remind us that how we hold ourselves physically can shape how we feel inside.

Your heart space is your centre of warmth and generosity — it’s where you hold love for yourself and others. Leo Season is a beautiful time to notice what helps this space feel open and steady: soft breathing, warm hands over your chest, or a few moments of quiet gratitude.

Your spine and upper back are your support system. When you stand tall and roll your shoulders back, you signal to your whole being: “I trust myself. I’m allowed to be here.” Gentle stretches, heart-opening poses, or simple movements that lift the chest can help you feel stronger and more uplifted from the inside out.

This is a season to honour your body as a vessel for your warmth and radiance — and to remember that a little mindful posture, breath, or movement can help you carry that inner glow wherever you go.

🦁Animals of Leo Season

Leo Season naturally calls in the lion and lioness — symbols of courage, warmth, loyalty, and gentle leadership. Think of the lioness: strong-hearted yet playful, fierce yet generous, moving with an inner confidence that invites us to stand taller in our own lives.

The peacock is another beautiful Leo symbol — unapologetically radiant, all shimmering colour and open display. It teaches us the art of self-adornment as a form of power and beauty — not to show off, but to show up.

Cats of all kinds carry a little Leo magic too — sun-lovers, independent yet affectionate, stretching out in golden pools of light. They remind us to rest in our warmth and to keep a spark of playfulness alive.

You might also look to nature’s creative builders — like the bowerbird, whose playful spirit gathers scraps of colour to create a beautiful display. Or the clever magpie, crafting its nest with shiny treasures. These remind us that creativity doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful — it just needs to be true to you.

Let these animals remind you: your boldness doesn’t have to be loud to be strong, your radiance doesn’t have to be constant to be real. Sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is adorn yourself with your true colours and be seen, exactly as you are.

💎 Crystals for Leo Season

🌞 Sunstone — Encourages optimism, personal power, and a sense of gentle leadership. Helps you trust your light and share it freely.

🔥 Carnelian — Sparks courage and confidence, supports healthy self-worth, and invites more creative play into daily life.

✨ Citrine — Brightens your mood, strengthens your sense of abundance and generosity, and reminds you that joy is worth celebrating.

🦁 Pyrite — Grounds your energy while boosting your motivation and inner strength. A good stone for feeling steady and proud of who you are.

🌿 Essential Oils for Leo Energy

🌞 Sweet Orange — Uplifting and joyful, it helps brighten the mood and encourage playfulness. A lovely oil for boosting your inner sunshine.

🔥 Ginger — Warming and invigorating, ginger stirs courage and confidence, helping you feel steady and strong.

✨ Frankincense — Deepens self-trust and brings a gentle, heart-centred calm. Supports you in standing tall and connected to your true self.

💛 Cinnamon — Comforting and energising, cinnamon reminds you to tend your inner flame and share your warmth generously.

Always remember: Essential oils should be diluted with a good carrier oil before applying to the skin, and it’s wise to patch test first. Please don’t ingest oils, and keep them away from little ones and pets.

🎨 Colours of Leo Season

The colours of Leo Season mirror the life-giving warmth of the Sun — they’re bold, cheerful, and remind us that our light can be shared generously, even in winter.

✨ A few colours to work with:

  • Gold: For self-honouring, abundance, and reminding you of your inner glow.

  • Sunflower Yellow: Uplifts the mood and brings a sense of childlike joy and openness.

  • Fiery Orange: Sparks creativity, warmth, and a little playful courage.

  • Crimson or Deep Red: Connects you to your heart space and your natural confidence.

I’ll be honest — I don’t always love wearing these colours myself, and I completely forgot to mention that in some of the other blogs! But it’s important to know you don’t have to drape yourself in brights to work with colour energy.

You can bring these shades in gently: a vase of sunflowers on your table, a yellow candle flickering as you journal, a splash of golden paint or pencil in your notebook, or even a swipe of bold red lipstick — if anyone can pull that off, it’s a Leo at heart!

Let these colours remind you that your warmth is always there — ready to be noticed and shared, in whatever way feels right for you.

🍊 Nourishing Foods for Leo Season

Leo Season invites you to nourish your body with foods that feel like little rays of sunshine in the heart of winter. Think golden, sun-kissed ingredients that remind you of warmth, energy, and that generous, celebratory spirit.

Foods to enjoy might include:

✨ Citrus fruits — oranges, mandarins, lemons — to brighten your mood and add a burst of fresh energy.

✨ Stone fruits (if you can find them frozen or preserved) — peaches or apricots bring sweetness and that memory of summer’s warmth.

✨ Spiced soups and hearty stews — full of root veggies and warming herbs to keep your inner fire glowing.

✨ Golden grains and seeds — corn, millet, sunflower seeds — nourishing and symbolic of the Sun’s energy.

Leo reminds us that food is not just fuel — it can be a celebration. So yes, gather with loved ones for a warming meal if you like — but don’t forget you can create little feasts for yourself too. Lay out a beautiful cheese platter for one, build a nourishing Buddha bowl that looks as good as it tastes, or take the time to make yourself a big, joyful breakfast that feels like a treat.

And why not say yes to a slice of cake if it feels good for you (and suits your health needs)? Remember all the extras — the chutneys, garnishes, condiments, edible flowers — the tiny touches that turn a simple meal into a celebration. Give yourself the magic you deserve. Present it in a way that says: “I am worth celebrating.”

Always keep your dietary needs in mind — but within that, let food be part of your Leo warmth this season.

🌼 Flowers, Trees & Herbs for Leo Season

Seasonal Blooms in Australia

Look for jonquils, daffodils, and golden wattle as they begin to blossom — tiny suns bursting through winter’s chill, reminding you of the light that grows even when it’s cold.

Symbolic Blooms:

Roses (especially golden or orange) have long been linked to Leo’s generous, radiant heart — they carry a warmth that feels both regal and soft. Sunflowers, too, echo the turning of your own face towards what nourishes you.

Trees:

Eucalyptus is always a steady friend — cleansing, protective, and so deeply Australian. Pine or cypress can bring a sense of evergreen resilience and gentle courage.

Herbs:

Basil (Tulsi) is sacred to the sun in many traditions — it warms the heart and invites gentle strength. Calendula (Marigold) is another herb of the sun — bright, protective, and full of hope. Bay brings victory and self-respect. Cinnamon (in stick form) can add a spark of warmth and passion to your altar or daily rituals.

Cook with these plants — if they’re of the edible variety! — or dry them for tiny bundles, sprinkle petals on your altar cloth, or place a sprig in your wallet as a reminder of your own radiant energy.

✨My Personal Reflection for Leo Season

What I’ve really enjoyed about creating this work for Leo Season is the reminder that creativity doesn’t need to be for any particular reason. It doesn’t need to be for show — it can simply be for fun, for playfulness, for beauty, or for the quiet practice of putting a little piece of your inner world on display.

One of the most powerful things I gathered when I was younger — back when I was always making, dressing up, expressing — is that self-adornment and creativity are not always about how others see us. They can be about how we see ourselves. Sometimes they’re an anchor, a reminder of who you truly are inside, reflected back to you in the mirror.

Over the years, I’ve grown through many versions of myself. I’ve let go of caring so much about what others think, and I’ve learned — as many women do — that fashion is fleeting, trends come and go, but the essence of your own expression is yours alone to tend. And just because you know what you like, doesn’t mean you have to shy away from pushing your own boundaries either. Leo Season reminds me of that sense of abundance and worthiness — giving yourself permission to have beautiful things, to wear what lights you up, to see your own courage reflected back.

This season’s work has also brought me to reflect on courage itself. When I was young, I thought courage meant being daring — jumping ditches on a pushbike, standing up to parents, saying the wild thing no one else would say. But as I’ve lived through my own life, I’ve come to understand the difference between bravery and courage. When my mum was sick, I told her she was so brave — and she said to me, “I’m not brave. When you’re brave, you have a choice.” She said she had no choice but to live through her illness each day. And that’s when I understood: true courage is what we find in the moments we have no choice but to keep going — when we step into discomfort, the unknown, or the painful without knowing how it will turn out, but knowing we must do it anyway.

That’s Leo energy to me: not showy heroics, but that inner resolve to stand tall for yourself, to step forward when it matters.

In my own birth chart, I have Mars in Leo in my first house — alongside my Cancer ascendant and Mercury there too — so courage, creativity, self-expression, and emotional vulnerability are deeply woven through how I meet the world. Mars is about drive, assertion, and pursuing your desires. With Mars in Leo, it’s a natural alignment for me to express myself boldly, creatively, and with a bit of drama when it’s called for — to leave a mark, to lead.

I can see how that’s played out all through my life: as a young girl, I wasn’t afraid to run races or put myself forward for leadership. I was school captain, sports captain, class captain — always willing to take the front if I felt called. And in my family, I’ve always been the one who stands up to speak — the one who holds the microphone at weddings and funerals, who gives the eulogies. My first was when I was only twenty-three, and ever since, each time someone I love passes, it’s me who faces the hundreds of eyes and lifts my voice for them.

One of the biggest tests of my Leo courage came when my son needed life-saving surgery as a child. Our community came together to fundraise, and I had to stand up in front of thousands — strangers who had given so much — and speak about what he would face in the days ahead. Not knowing if he would survive. It was harrowing, one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It put me at the forefront of my community for years, in a way that felt deeply uncomfortable — a raw mother’s lioness roar, a cry for help to save my boy. It was courage then, and it was courage again later to walk back into myself, to sit in the silence, to reflect, and to heal.

In my work now, my courage shows up in how I speak my truth — honestly, vulnerably, imperfectly. It wasn’t always graceful: in the past, I could only express my biggest feelings through tears that came like a flood when I didn’t have the words. It’s taken a lifetime to learn how to stand in that place and speak with clarity and care.

My Leo energy in the first house means the world often sees me as bold, expressive, or confident — but the inside doesn’t always match that. So, I know my work is to tend to that balance — to look across to my seventh house in Capricorn and invite more discipline and steadiness to support all this creative courage.

So, this season, my reminder to you is the same as to myself: let your creativity spill out — not just for others to see, but for you to remember who you are. Let courage be the quiet inner flame that guides you, not because you have to roar, but because you trust yourself enough to shine.

Living with Leo Energy

Living with Leo energy is about giving yourself permission to glow — in the ways that feel true for you. It’s not about being centre stage if that doesn’t feel right, but if it does feel right? Then by all means, get up there, stand under the spotlight, and let yourself be fully seen.

This season is your reminder not to be afraid to choose good things for yourself: the big, sunny mug for your tea, the biggest biscuit on the plate, the comfiest seat in the house. Little acts of self-honouring feed your flame in ways that ripple far beyond you.

Take up space in your body too — stand a little taller, roll your shoulders back, or stretch your chest open with some gentle yoga. Remember how strong and worthy you really are.

Share your warmth generously — and unexpectedly. Offer a kind word, a heartfelt compliment, or a simple gesture that lifts someone’s day. Maybe you drop off a jar of homemade marmalade on a friend’s doorstep, or surprise someone with a thoughtful little gift. Make that phone call to someone you know is struggling — your warmth can go further than you realise. And don’t forget to give yourself the same care: treat yourself to flowers, a special treat, or time alone to refill your cup.

Let your playful spirit have a say too. Play music while you cook — and if you usually reach for calm tunes, try something upbeat and see how it feels. Wrap a colourful scarf around your neck, splash your outfit with a pop of brightness, walk straight through a puddle instead of around it. Little moments of mischief keep your spirit alive.

Gather your courage when it counts. Maybe courage looks like showing something you’ve created, or finally saying something that needs to be said. Maybe it’s letting go of what no longer feels right, or choosing to bring in what does. Take a breath, find your Lioness within, and ask: What have I been putting off doing, saying, or showing?

And don’t forget: Leo energy is deeply linked to abundance — not just money, but a sense of “I am worthy of more than enough.” So this season, you might like to look at your finances through that lens too. Is there a simple savings plan you could set up for something that feels joyful? Maybe a little “fun money” jar just for you, or a special envelope for that holiday or course you’ve been dreaming about. You are allowed to plan for good things — you’re allowed to feel secure, steady, and open to receiving more.

Leo Season teaches us that your light is always worth tending — and that when you share it, the world gets a little warmer for everyone.

🕯️A Mini Sun Slice Ritual

This Leo Season, create a Mini Sun Slice — a simple, sweet treat baked just for you. This isn’t just a snack; it’s an edible spell: a moment to remind yourself that you’re worthy of warmth, sweetness, and your own care.

Enjoy it sitting at your altar, by a sunny window, or in any cosy spot that feels special — like a little throne for your Lioness heart.

✨Mini Sun Slice for One —✨

You’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons flour — the base, grounding your intentions and helping you feel steady.

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey — sweetness for joy and to attract more warmth into your life.

  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or coconut oil — richness and self-honouring, reminding you that you deserve the good things.

  • A pinch of cinnamon or ginger — warming spices that spark courage, confidence, and your inner fire.

  • A splash of milk (dairy or plant-based) — soothing nourishment, helping your intentions blend and flow together.

  • Optional: citrus zest or sunflower seeds — zest for brightness and clarity; sunflower seeds to remind you to turn toward the light.

  • A drizzle of honey, maple syrup, or citrus glaze to finish — a final crown of sweetness, sealing your ritual with abundance and self-worth.

1️⃣ Preheat your oven to 180°C (or use your air fryer).

2️⃣ Mix all ingredients (except drizzle) in a small bowl until smooth. Spoon into a lined muffin tin or ramekin.

3️⃣ Sprinkle your zest or seeds on top — a final blessing of sunlight!

4️⃣ Bake for 10–15 minutes or until golden and just set.

5️⃣ Once it’s slightly cooled, drizzle your honey, syrup, or glaze on top — because you are worth that extra touch.

🌞The Ritual:

While your Sun Slice bakes, brew yourself a warm cup of tea. Hold it in your hands, breathe in its steam, and ask: What part of me wants more care and warmth right now?

When your slice is ready, plate it on your nicest dish. Sit somewhere sunny or sacred, light a candle if you like, drizzle your sweetness, and savour it slowly — bite by bite. Let it remind you that you’re allowed to be fully nourished, fully loved, and fully celebrated — by you.

✨ Afterwards, you might like to journal on:

  • What part of me wants more kindness or celebration right now?

  • How can I share a little of my warmth or time with someone this week?

  • What small treat or ritual can I plan for myself next?

This is your gentle reminder that everyday abundance lives in the tiny, golden moments you give yourself. Leo Season invites you to say yes to the sweetness, the warmth, and the light — just for you.

✍️ Journaling Prompts for Leo Season

Use these gentle prompts to explore where your own warmth, courage, and joy want to grow — and how you might share them in real ways, just for you.

✨ Where in my life have I been hiding away parts of myself — my voice, my talents, my generosity? How could I let them be seen just a little more this season?

✨ When I think about generosity, do I give more to others than I do to myself? How could I start to bring that back into balance?

✨ What playful or joyful thing did I love as a child that I could bring into my winter days now? Is there a simple version of it I could do this week?

✨ Is there something I’ve been putting off saying, sharing, or creating because I feel shy? What tiny step could I take to bring it into the light?

✨ What small ritual or treat could I plan just for myself this month, to remind me that I’m worth celebrating too?
