A little peek into my kitchen witchery today… I’ve been bubbling away, turning an absolute bounty of gifted oranges, lemons, limes, and lemonade fruits — plus a mountain of onions — into these glowing jars of Midwinter Sunshine Chutney.

This beautiful mix is bursting with citrusy tang and a gentle warmth that feels like a little spoonful of joy on a chilly day. Perfect to top curries, roast veggies, fish or chicken — or honestly, just spooned straight onto a cracker if you’re like me and can’t resist a taste.

Feeling so lucky to have been gifted all this gorgeous fruit by kind clients and family over the past few weeks — what better way to honour it than to stir it into something sturdy, bright, and full of love.

These fragrant flowers have filled our house with the sweetest scent — a little gift from my beautiful Adam. We’ve been in love since we were sixteen. We don’t often buy each other things, but every now and then he’ll walk through the door with a cuddle, a kiss (or a couple!), and flowers like these.

He’s away a few nights a week for work, and that time apart has actually made us cherish each other even more. It’s funny how a bit of distance reminds you how much you adore coming back together.

Now our kids are in their 20s, and looking back I know this for sure: our weekly date night — even when we were broke — has been the best medicine for our relationship. Sometimes it was just dinner in our bedroom or a night in our caravan in the yard — simple but sacred.

So many people say they don’t have time, money or space for that one hour a week. But honestly — if you don’t have an hour or 2 for each other, something needs to shift. Maybe it’s putting down your phone, or teaching the kids to respect that it’s your time. Families need to learn that every relationship within them needs nurturing.

That one hour has held us together for 28 years. Always worth it.
